At Stage Explorers Summer Camp, your child will learn everything it takes to put on a show in a professional theatre. From center stage to backstage, no corner of The Children’s Theatre of Virginia at Willow Lawn goes unexplored as campers learn about singing, acting and dancing, lights, sound, sets, and everything in between!

Stage Explorers Campers will spend their mornings rotating between hour-long singing, acting, and dance classes taught by some of Richmond’s leading theatre professionals. Afternoons at camp will give students first-hand experience with design and production through technical theatre workshops and projects. Led by Virginia Rep’s own production staff and designers, this year’s workshops will cover topics such as: scenic design, costuming, stage makeup, lighting and sound design, etc.

At the end of their two weeks, campers will produce and perform in a Stage Explorers Showcase for all of their friends and family. No auditions required! There’s a role for everyone at this fun-filled camp, full of exploration, investigation and imagination!

NEW THIS YEAR!  A more mature, in-depth version of Stage Explorers Summer Camp, Virginia Rep’s brand new Young Performers Institute aims to provide middle and early high school students with professional opportunities to dive deep into theatrical performance and rep camp 2

Institute participants will spend mornings receiving professional instruction in vocal performance and dance from some of Richmond’s top musicians and choreographers. Afternoons will be split between intensive acting classes with Virginia Rep Arts Integration Manager and local performer/director Sarah Roquemore and seminars on special topics such as Shakespeare, audition technique, and theatrical design/production.

The two-week program will culminate with a final showcase for family and friends where campers will perform scenes, monologues, choreography, and music they have learned and rehearsed during camp. No audition or previous experience is required: an interest and enthusiasm for the stage are all your Young Performer needs to have a great time!
