Riding The James River Rambler is Breathtaking

james river ramblerHave you ever considered taking a railroad excursion?  Yes? Then catch The Rambler and celebrate springtime in Central Virginia!

On May 11th, May 18th, and June 1st enjoy a historic and nostalgic journey into rural Buckingham County (rain or shine).  Experience the excitement of the bygone days of traveling by train from your seat in either the air-conditioned coaches, open window coaches or the open air sight-seeing cars.  The vintage diesel train winds through rolling hills, forests, and includes a breathtaking view of the James River.

The Rambler departs from quaint Dillwyn Station about 90 minutes from Richmond.  Families can bring picnic lunches or purchase sandwiches, snacks and beverages on the train.  Train rides are either 1.5 hours or 3.5 hours depending on the date and time selected.  More details here.

Important Information:
  • Seating is limited, therefore advance ticket purchase is recommended, tickets can be purchased online
  • Children under two, not occupying a seat, ride for free
  • All seating is first come, first served
  • Boarding begins 15 minutes before departure
  • There is ample parking in Dillwyn
  • Handicap accessibility is somewhat limited on the train due to the vintage design and construction of the passenger cars.  Call 804.231.4324 for specific help as needed.
  • No alcoholic beverages are permitted aboard the train
