About the exhibition: Tom Wesselmann was one of the leading figures of American Pop Art. Alongside Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and James Rosenquist, he forged the Pop Art movement using everyday materials and images as well as reproductions of paintings by such artists as Matisse, Picasso, and Mondrian.  From the early 1960s, he was famous for his series Great American Nudes and Still Lifes, and he continually reinvented himself long after Pop Art’s crest. VMFA is the only East Coast venue for this landmark exhibition.
