Greater Richmond SCAN’s annual race is gearing up. This year’s race is at West Broad Village in Short Pump and new this year is a Children’s Festival. The Race to Protect Children on April 6, 2013 will kick off SCAN’s local National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Join SCAN and raise funds to support their work during National Child Abuse Prevention Month! SCAN’s mission is to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect throughout the Greater Richmond area by protecting children, promoting positive parenting, strengthening families and creating a community that values and cares for its children.

Every day children are hurt by someone they know and love. SCAN offers five different programs to combat this painful reality.

  • SCAN works to empower parents with knowledge and resources to better nurture and protect their children.
  • For children who have been hurt, SCAN provides mental health treatment, advocacy in the court system, coordination of the investigation and prosecution of cases with local law enforcement and child protective services.
  • SCAN also works to prevent children from ever being hurt by educating the community about how to recognize, react and report child abuse and neglect.
