Garden Explorations for Families- Birds in Winter.  3:30pm.  Lewis Ginter botanical Gardens.  Children (all ages) with accompanying adult. Enjoy story time and a fun-filled adventure while exploring different areas of the Garden. We observe our surroundings using a variety of hands-on activities and take-home treasures. Themes change each month and new stories, activities and garden areas are introduced each week. Garden Explorations for Families is an excellent opportunity for homeschoolers!  Fee.

Monster Jam®, featuring Grave Digger – Lowe’s Build and Grow Program.  10am.  Your child will love the Monster Jam® kit featuring Grave Digger®! Bring them to Lowe’s this weekend to get closer than ever to one of their favorite Monster Jam superstars!  Registration required.  Free.

New Legacy Jazz Band.  Performances at 11am and 1pm.  Children’s Museum – Central.  Enjoy a special performances celebrating African American culture and history.  Sit back and relax while listening from the past to the present of jazz music with the New Legacy Jazz Band.  Event is free with museum admission.

Upstairs/Downstairs – Maymont Honors Black History Month.  12:30pm.  Maymont Mansion.   Explore Maymont Mansion from the perspective of the employees who toiled behind the scenes to maintain a millionaire’s home in turn-of-the-twentieth-century Richmond. Visit the kitchen, butler’s pantry, back stairs, the formal spaces and more to discover how the conscientious and efficient staff went about their daily work to care for the Dooleys and their guests.  Fee.

ChinaFest.  1pm-4pm.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts – Family Programs.  Celebrate the year of the snake at a Chinese New Year’s celebration. Enjoy dance, music, and authentic crafts such as silk painting. See dragon puppets come to life and lions dance through the Atrium. Don’t forget to have your face painted as your zodiac animal! A Hidden History: African Americans at Dabbs.  1pm-3pm.  Dabbs House Museum.  For all ages. Tour the museum and learn more about the role African Americans played in the history of this historic building. Go on four, separate 15-minute tours that include the Dabbs’ Family Slaves, Robert E. Lee’s slave-Perry Parks, Battle of New Market Height’s, and African Americans at the almshouse. Information: 652-3409.   Free.
